Express Entry Category-Based Selection: Healthcare Occupations

Express Entry Category-Based Selection: Healthcare Occupations

[ad_1]

On May 31st, 2023 Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) declared that it has completed the development of a new category-based selection process for Express Entry.

Why Is Healthcare a Priority Occupation for Canada Express Entry?

Healthcare is one of the industries in Canada with a serious labor shortage. This is due in part to Canada having one of the lowest birth rates in the world, as well as an aging population. For example, within the next seven years, it is predicted that nine million Canadians will reach retirement age, 65.

An aging population will put more strain on the healthcare system. Canada requires immigrants to compensate for a lack of younger Canadians and to fill these essential positions.

According to Statistics Canada, there were 144,500 vacant positions in the healthcare and social support sector as of March 2023, accounting for 17.7% of all job vacancies.
